19.1.2. Irregular Verbs
nota
Like with other aspects of Neolatin, both irregular and regular forms are allowed. Furthermore, these irregular stems apply not only to the future tense, but also the conditional tense.
Recommended Irregular Stems
| Verb | Irregular Stem | Language(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Èssere | Ser- | Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Dícere | Dir- | Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Fàcere | Far- | Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Havere | Havr- | Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Potere | Potr- | Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Sapere | Sapr- | Spanish, Catalan, Occitan, French, Italian |
| Vedere* | Vedr- | Italian (Only in Italian, but other languages lost the consonant “D” in the infinitive, and therefore, the loss of a syllable in this form resembles other languages.) |
More Irregular Stems
Verbs marked with an asterisk correspond to two models of pronunciation in other languages:
- France and Iberia (excluding Portuguese): These languages typically insert the consonant “D” after eliding the vowel (ex: “tendrà”). However, Neolatin simply deletes the vowel without inserting a “D” (ex: “tenere”, tenrà [t̪en'ɾa]).
- Italian: Regressive assimilation in pronunciation (ex: “tenere”, terrà [t̪e'ra])
